I am currently engaged in the development of a strong enterprize, complementing the benefits gained from my professional activities. I have built a comprehensive network of individuals who seek my direct mentorship and guidance.
To tackle various economic challenges, I founded a private entity, an Independent Asset Management services firm. This firm focuses on providing affordable accommodation, promoting entrepreneurship through support for small businesses, offering investment advisory services, and participating in fundraising initiatives. Additionally, I am involved in projects that promote economic sustainability across multiple sectors, including transportation, education, technology, travel, tourism, innovation, health, and agriculture.
My endeavours are closely aligned with my primary mission to contribute, both directly and indirectly, to the growth of Nigeria's economy.
The initiatives launched by the company go beyond profit-making; they are designed to enhance specific sectors. For example, the Discount Auto Rental (DAR) project offers affordable car rental services to both residents of Lagos State and visitors travelling to Lagos for business or leisure. DAR is dedicated to providing a high-quality experience to its customers at competitive daily rates.
The DAR project was initiated by the Independent Asset Management services firm not only to generate traditional business benefits for shareholders and stakeholders but also as a strategic economic measure to address the unemployment crisis in the country.
In our real estate division, we aim to provide affordable housing solutions for professionals in affluent areas of the city, ensuring easy access to their workplaces and businesses. The significant gap between living costs and income levels in the nation has resulted in a troubling poverty rate and a decline in life expectancy, particularly among residents of Lagos. This initiative seeks to create a meaningful positive impact on the wellbeing of the local community.
As a Business Economist, I serve as an active member of the Board of Directors for several key economic business sectors in Nigeria, including engineering, technology, services, agriculture, construction, travel, tourism and accommodation. My primary objective in these roles is to enhance the sustainability of the communities and support the families of the employees within the sectors I am involved with.
What aspects of your experience at a UK university contributed to your success? In what ways did studying at a UK university differ from your experiences at other institutions?
I have gained academic experiences from both developed and developing nations. I pursued a degree in Economics at the University of Lagos, one of Nigeria's premier institution. My primary motivation for choosing this field was to understand human behaviour and the underlying systems that govern the world.
During my final year of study, I faced challenges in reconciling my initial enthusiasm for the degree with the realities of the curriculum and the attitudes of the faculty, which were not particularly supportive.
In addition to the esteemed reputation of UK universities, which have produced remarkable leaders contributing to the firmness of the global economy, my time in the UK significantly enhanced my personal growth and development. I was particularly impressed by the curriculum and structure of the programme at the University of Dundee School of Business. The programme was designed to foster self-discovery and individual strengths through assessments, examination, teamwork, and public speaking.
My experience as an international student in the UK enriched my understanding of essential principles, such as the importance of time management, critical thinking in decision-making, the benefit of equality, and the significance of prudence, all while maintaining a sound mind in various circumstances.
These fundamental principles have greatly contributed to my overall development and have often placed me in leadership roles across different aspects of life.
Three years after completing my master's programme, I returned to the UK to pursue a doctorate in business administration. Although I considered Canada and the United States for further international exposure, my experience in the UK remains the most enriching and enlightening period of my life, making it difficult to choose another country, especially because of my familiarity with the educational system.
Given my extensive experience with the education standards of the UK and Nigeria, it became evident that pursuing a doctorate degree in Nigeria was not a feasible option.
Kindly provide instances where you have conveyed your experiences of studying at a UK university and motivated others through your insights.
My commitment to contribute to the society, both domestically and internationally, led me to motivating a family member to establish an educational consulting firm. The primary aim of this initiative was to inspire Nigeria citizens to pursue their studies in the United Kingdom while simultaneously enhancing the UK economy through the influx of international students from Nigeria. This endeavour reflects my profound gratitude for the opportunity I received to study in the UK. In 2015, persuading my partner to opt for a master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism in the UK, rather than her original intention to study in Canada, was relatively straightforward. This was largely due to the fact that all five members of her immediate family had pursued their education in the UK, with some attaining Ph.D. degrees and others holding master’s degrees.
I seldom engage in conversations, whether personal or in the context of evangelism, without sharing insights from my experiences as a student in the UK, which I believe resonate with others and foster a deep appreciation for knowledge.
Ultimately, my goal is to promote education by launching an educational technology initiative that provides equitable learning opportunities through an online platform, facilitating connections and networking among individuals with shared interests across various disciplines.
